I find it hard to believe that ten years ago my once busy life
had come to a halt. I couldn’t walk more that ten yards without pain. My chronic fatigue meant that I couldn’t
climb a single flight of stairs without stopping halfway up. I would have to sit down and rest before making it to the top.
It makes me realise how far I have come when I think that in 2004 I climbed
up the inside of the Great Pyramid in Egypt.
I now work full time in a job that I adore and, for me, life doesn’t
get much better than that.
How did I go from what it was like then to what it is like now?
It was a journey which started off with me being told that I had
Fibromyalgia with multiple sensitivities, including chemicals, and that there was no treatment for it. I went from employing
100+ people to being on Incapacity Benefit. It was hard for me to accept that
I had lost everything. I was emotionally, physically and spiritually bankrupt. I guess from that point the only way was
up.
Someone suggested that I receive some Reiki from someone they knew
and this was my first experience of complementary therapy. I didn’t notice that much difference after the first session,
or the second. By the third I suppose that I must have been feeling a little better because I decided that I would try to
detoxify. Each month my health started to improve, as I managed to cut a lot
of toxins out of both my environment and food. I also detoxified heavy metals out of my system and started to gain some hope
that one day I would be able to recover enough to begin working again.
When that day came, I decided that I wanted to work to integrate
my orthodox medical training with complementary health.
I started off working just six hours a week as an allergist
testing for food sensitivities and heavy metals, and learned a lot about nutrition and the use of herbs. I was able eventually
to work full time and went to work in a complementary cancer clinic. Having previously trained as a hypnotherapist and counsellor,
I also learned about environmental toxins, and how to clear them out of the system. Some of the treatment was based upon
coffee enemas and diet. It was a big learning curve for me, as I found that when I started to follow the treatment myself,
it was the final piece of the jigsaw. My health improved tremendously and I realised how important a functioning colon is
to my well being.
I did a post-graduate training course as a colon hydrotherapist
and still have colonics myself when I feel I need them. If my IBS returns or my energy levels drop, a cleanse usually
sorts me out!
I lost 5 stones in weight last year and feel much better for it.
I still yo-yo a little but I try to make wise food choices for myself 80% of the time. That is definitely progress for me
as I can tend to be a bit of a junk food addict. I found that the Nutrichef meals helped me to break some bad habits and learn
how good healthy food can taste. The most important thing to me is that I have my life back. No more being sick and tired of
being sick and tired.
My journey has been a huge learning experience, but it has enabled
me to pass on what I have learned to others. I have loads of fact sheets and printed self-help tips which I am happy to pass
on to you to should you decide to come and see me.
Next year, it will be forty years since I started training as a
Registered General Nurse. Today, I am truly grateful to still be registered, practicing, learning new things all the time
and loving my job.
Healthy regards,
Angela
